Interstate Typography Poster
Interstate is a typeface designed by American type designer Tobias Frere-Jones in 1995. This sans serif font built upon the original Highway Gothic (1949), which was used on highway signage in the United States. Inconsistencies within the font itself made some letter forms difficult for night drivers to read, which Frere-Jones refreshed into the typeface we now know as Interstate.
This poster showcases the typeface including its name, its designer Tobias Frere-Jones, and the year it was designed. Examples of letterforms, a selection of punctuation marks, a paragraph explaining the origin of the Interstate Highway System, and distorted letterforms were configured to mimic highway overpasses.
